Pretty (and Not-so-pretty) Things

2 mins

I won’t go so far as to say that this is a portfolio, but it is a smattering of visual art that I’ve created over the years.

3D Sculpts and Stuff
#

I like working in 3D. It’s the space I’ve been active in for most of my professional career. Animating is one of my biggest loves… whether in 3D or other media, but I sometimes do still images and designs in 3D, too. Of course, I do it all using Blender.

Illustrations and Scribbles
#

Before I knew what a computer was, I was making marks on paper and trying to make those marks look like things. I still do that. Sometimes it’s with traditional media like pencil or ink. Sometimes it’s entirely digital. Other times, it’s less conventional (I like to paint with coffee).

Animating/Drawing on Coffee Sleeves
#

Sometimes, it’s not the coffee that’s the medium… but the thing around it. I’ve found that those corrugated sleeves that they use to prevent your fingers from getting too hot are a great surface for experimenting with little two-frame animations. Of course, even if they’re not corrugated, they’re a fun surface to scribble on.

Carving in Wood and Things
#

I love carving. Because I travel and don’t have a lot of space, my carvings are often small or are channels to inlay crushed stones. However, I have taken an angle grinder to a wooden table and carved a lion’s head into it. That was fun.
